Turkey in talks with Britain, Spain to buy 40 Eurofighter typhoon jets

On Thursday, Defense Minister Yasar Gular announced that Turkey is engaged in discussions with Britain and Spain regarding the potential acquisition of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon jets. However, it was noted that Germany has expressed objections to this proposal.

During a parliamentary hearing in Ankara, Gular stated, “We are actively pursuing the procurement process. Presently, the UK and Spain are working towards persuading Germany, although direct negotiations with Germany have not taken place. Our intention is to acquire 40 Eurofighter Typhoon jets, if feasible.”

Turkey, a member of NATO, has submitted a request to purchase U.S. F-16 fighter jets; however, the fulfillment of this procurement has encountered delays. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to visit Germany on Friday for discussions with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
